Brilliant
Watchmen takes a completely different turn from normal hero comics. Set in a time when the Cold War was on everyone's mind and people feared nuclear war, Watchmen shows how foolish the war was, as both Russia and America both build their armies and weaponry trying to build a more powerful bomb because if they didn't then the other side would. Not only does Watchmen remind us of the fearful times during the Cold war, it also gives us a dark insight to the criminal world, which is mostly described by one of the masked vigilantes. Though this is usually a side of the world that people don't like to think about Alan Moore displays it with all the horrors that people try to hide from. You can't help but think that maybe the law is failing and that the police need to do more to help people, but it also shows that when people do make a stand to try to help that the people turn their backs on them, which I can't help but think would happen. The Comedian is one of the stangest characters in the entire thing, at first you think him nothing more than a bigoted monster but the more you think about it the more you realise that he is a horrifying account of humanity at our worst moments. The book is well worth reading because there are so many different messages within it.After reading both V for Vendetta and From Hell, I was looking forward to reading another of Alan Moore's works and Watchmen didn't disappoint. Great read and enjoyable plot.

Up there with the Punisher Max and Batman Dark Knight series
I don't read many graphic novels. This is one i wish I'd read years earlier. It poses interesting questions, moral dilemmas. Reading it today, it's reminiscent of a time, not so long ago, when people were living under the daily threat of imminent nuclear war and destruction. It deals with the issues of power and intelligence, and how beings with power can become distant from individual humanity, and humanity as a whole.Don't search for spoilers prior to reading.

A good story
Ok lets face it, the watchmen is probably the most hyped graphic novel going. To be honest i wasnt really interested but i was eventually pestered enough i went and got a copy. And you know what, i thought it was great. It was also a lot longer than most graphic novels, the story was better constructed and the art was never the dominant factor. The characters i thought were exceptional, fully three dimensional and definitely draw the reader in.so why only 4 stars and not 5? well for one thing there is a subplot of a kid reading a story about a pirate. Without ruining the book ill say that it does make a point, but it could have been made better. Those parts really slowed the story down, and was like watching an advert in the middle of the movie. Also the prose sections at the end of every chapter arent exactly everyones cup of tea. One friend of mine just skipped those entirely when reading the book because he found it ruined the pace of the whole thing. I personally thought it was a good touch and that it helped flesh out the story without seriously increasing the page count.Although the artwork is simple it is still good. Everything always seems in proportion, and the facial expressions do bring the characters to life. Despite being a graphic novel i would like to say anyone who enjoys reading will enjoy this.

The best graphic novel out there
Just awesome. Read it for a gripping plot, brilliant dialogue, deep characters and perfect illustration. Then go on to read "V for Vendetta". "Halo Jones", "From Hell", "Killing Joke" and all rest. Read one and you'll want them all.

Classic book
Arrived in good condition and very quickly. It was actually the classic yellow Comedian badge cover not the group image shown in the photo - which was not what I was expecting and was a pleasant surprise. 5 stars for the book, the service and the product itself.

Quite simply stunning
The word on the street is that Watchmen is finally going to be made into a movie. Although I'm likely to be queueing to get a ticket, in many ways it's a shame, because Watchmen is quite simply one of the most complex, awesome and complete novels of the twentieth century, delivered in a form that is perfect for the tale. Anything that can be re-read time and time again and still unlock new surprises refunds its cover price ten times over, and this is certainly one of the few books that delivers on all levels. Forget the "SOCK POW" of the 60's Batman series, and even the original Superman film - instead examine the minds of masked vigilantes and how the existence of a real superhero would affect the planet. Those thoughts, and many, many more are explored here in a cracking yarn that remains tense, thrilling, consistent and amazing throughout - and all from two tiny brains that dared to challenge convention when the Superhero was believed to be dead.Buy this now, before Holywood makes it hot property or buries it just as it did The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Still an all time classic!
I just finished re-reading the Watchmen for the first time since the eighties. I enjoyed it even more. What a powerful story. Only question is it too dated for the younger generation to enjoy? I say no. I think the younger generation would see it as the fascinating look at the eighties it is and leave with a much better understanding of the life we lived.

Great! A novel about a specific time but not limited by it
I readed the novel so I could fully understand the recent HBO show and also because I already loved the movie. The comic is absolutely great, the characters and how they interact, act and think, and the way the story drive you into the atmosphere of the cold war context, in a American perspective, is just impeccable and truly immersive . *KIND OF SPOILERS* They didn't have to do it, but the side stories about "ordinary people" of New York (quoted because Ozymandias show us that ordinary people doesn't exist at all) serve to humanize the city and put the reactions of Silk Spectre and Rorschach much more real and relatable at the end

This was the basis of the show so obviously it’s awesome
By far the most engaging graphic novel i’ve read, Alan Moore’s a genius. This was way ahead of its time
