Compared Water Purific. Options -- This Filter Won-- Against City Chlorine & Sediment
We take a pretty academic approach when we begin researching and comparing a given product. To that end,… we are fortunate that "the few Inventions and Life Comforts" that we invite into our home --- usually end up working out pretty well.Like several of the readers here, we first reviewed $350 - under-the-sink Reverse Osmosis water cleaning systems. Because losing so much water to brine, +forced use of a plastic storage tank under the sink -- we stepped back 20 paces to also consider the small Brita water pitchers that several of our friends have at their ski condos or beach cottages… Not a fan -- unless it's the ONLY purification option. We concluded that this Nahla Water Filter System operates in a fashion similar to the cartridges that yield our friends purified water dispensed from their refrigerators. We decided THIS product might actually be the best water purification to use in our home. For the past 15 years, we've been hauling endless numbers of gallon jugs of Arrowhead or Crystal Geyser to the house -- & often to the homes of others that we'd visit. We identified the underside of our laundry room sink as our 1st choice, and under the kitchen sink as the 2nd. Our plumber said either would work -- but he overlooked telling us that the laundry room set up would involve more modifications ( costing an extra 50 min of his time, and some small cuts to his hands. He didn't wear gloves when he yanked the sink out of the counter to give himself more elbow room, due to an interior cabinet shelf being too close to the sink to allow him to reasonable turn the water hose connectors). We are VERY GRATEFUL that he pointed out the existing hoses were made of a notoriously "carcinogen-istic plastic."….Those old hoses were okay if the water is used to clean a chocolate stain on a blouse -- but it's NOT okay for to use "old hoses" when trying to establish a spot in the house to get purified drinking water. We viewed 2 YouTube videos that you can query to pull up on YouTube, by typing Nahla Water Filter Install, in their "Search Bar." One"teaching video" was made by a gentleman who builds homes, the other by a helpful "DIY-Do It Yourself" home improvement advocate. The install is straight forward -- and you can probably Do It Yourself -- unless, there is an obstacle -- like the shelf under the sink in our laundry room, that obstructs your ability to screw out, screw in the attachment hoses. I'm just SUPER GLAD our plumber insisted upon switching out those cancer-causing old water hoses. So,… while you are developing a strategy for your install -- be sure someone researches and evaluates whether your hoses are made of "the old school, cancer causing materials." -- unless it's a new home,.. they probably need to be replaced. I think they were ~ $15 to $30 .The Nahla Pure folks stayed in touch with me from the beginning, and let me know they'd appreciate being able to answer questions, and meet my needs. They also forwarded a link to an installation video…. sorry -- I don't know if it's the same as one of the other ones you can query,… that will come up on YouTube. I emailed the company with 2 separate installation questions --- and the company wrote me back with helpful answers within 8 hours -- even over the weekend.BTW ---That obstructive shelf,… also got in the way of mounting our filter top to bottom -- or north to south. We asked the Nahla Pure folks if it was OK to let the filter sit sideways -- or east to west…. (lay down horizontal), instead of being vertical (up and down). They said mounting the filter sideways ( or just sitting it there sideways / horizontally) was as acceptable as mounting it vertically. Now -- 5 days after the install -- we've had time to do the "carbon filter rinse" a few times. We are enjoying being able to fill our 1st few gallon jugs, from the comfort of our own home…! The water is clean and pure -- just like the water we've been hauling to the house for the past 17 years…!So far we are VERY HAPPY with our choice of a Nahla Pure water filter. If anything changes in the next several weeks / months … we will add the concern to this post.TLN Golden, Colorado**

The water that is passed through this unit is great!
Just as it says in the discription. Simple to install. Water is great! Just remember, if you find you can't easily shut off the angle-stop (shut off valve) under your sink, don't use pliers or such to attempt to do so. Even if you get it to close, without breaking it, It most likely will not close all the way, youmay never get to open all the way or it may break while trying to open and you will be in for replacing that part! It's best to just leave it alone and remove to flex line going to the faucet! If your home has the water plumbing above the ceiling, not under the floor, you'll need to shut off your cold water supply (from the street) and allow all cold water to drain back (by opening all your cold water faucets, including the hose bibs, outside) prior to removing the supply line from the angle-stop (shut off) under the sink, where you want to install this new filter. Once installed, simply close all open faucets, turn on the cold water at the street supply and bleed the air from the cold water line at the new filter site and if all is well, no leaks, bleet air from all the other faucets.I am a retired, general contractor/plumber so you can trust this information.Should you choose to replace a non-operational angle-stop, be aware at times this can become a difficult problem for someone with limited knowledge of the situation.I should mention, I had to trim 1/4" off each arm of the bracket to allow the filter to be snapped into it! UPDATE UPDATEI purchased and installed this unit in November of 2015 so, we have been using it (on the cold side of our Kitchen sink) for going into the third month. We are very pleased with the results thus far. Even with our large (salt free type) whole house water filter set-up (before installing this filter), we were having a problem with mineral deposits being deposited in our vegetable steamer pan and coffee pot. Well, now heading into our third month using the Nahla Pure filter and filling those items with water passed through it, we are finding next to no mineral deposit. If there is any, we can't see it and it must be washing out with the normal dish washing procedure. NO SCOURING PAD OR POWDERS NEEDED AT ALL!I was asked one time through my initial review, if I though an additional ice-maker filter was needed. I said I doubted it would be. After the above time test, I strongly believe the answer is no.Remember though, this filter only works on one side of the faucet set. That is the "cold" side of our kitchen sink.Rodger
