Wrong shape? Size?
TLDR: Too big, filed it down. Light still doesn’t work so while I doubt it’s the socket, it’s hard to confirm and diagnose an issue. Also, I’ll be p*ssed if I spent $$$ on diagnosing an issue that turns out to be the socket anyway.~~~One of my stop light bulb sockets had melted when a bulb blew, so I ordered a replacement. When it arrived, it looked almost identical to the original but a slightly lighter grey and the socket side that connects to the wires was a little flexible compared to the original. I figured no big deal as it was strong enough.Funnily enough, that wasn’t the issue as it turned out that it did not fit my Mazda. I thought it was just a slight flaw that could be filed, but it turns out (as far as I could tell- it’s a pretty tight squeeze back there) that the two smaller (opposite) protruding pieces of plastic that lock the piece into place were in the wrong position, or too large. I ended up filing those down and the larger bottom piece, but it still wouldn’t fit. Apparently the cylindrical part of the socket that the other pieces I’d filed down were attached to (I’m sure there are fancy names for these things that I don’t have 🙄) was also too large/wide. So I filed those curves down a bit too. Eventually, after much trial and error from not wanting to file the thing down any more than I had to, I got it in (that’s what she said) and turned so it locked into place. Being a Mythbusters watcher (and science-enjoyer in general), I knew to test it twice. So I pulled it out and did it again. Sure enough, it still fit. I stuck the bulb in and got it all locked into place (the bulb, even I had the sense to leave everything accessible) then tested it. Nada. Now, I’ve been having issues with this light and bought this socket as a relatively inexpensive way to help self-diagnose it. As a single mum who has pretty much zero experience (I can check my fluid levels and pump gas... although I live in Oregon now, so it’s possible even that is a skill I’ve lost 😆) I mostly have google and YouTube to assist me. I can’t afford to pay some guy to rip me off because I’m clueless, then spend hours running diagnostics to tell me I need seventy-six different things done, ranging in price from $400 (plus labor) to omfg-I-need-to-sell-a-kidney-and-maybe-my-soul. Maybe not the last part- I could probably live with that. Unfortunately, while I sincerely doubt my filing skills (or lack thereof) compromised the integrity of the socket, it’s still kinda tough to write it off completely when trying to diagnose a problem.

Inexpensive
Was a little flimsy and cracked a little bit. Was lucky that it wasn’t on an area where the performance of part was affected. Functions fine.

Fits the 2009 Mazda 3
Exactly what I needed. I tried to find these sockets and several big name auto stores and could not find them. I was told they weren’t listed in their parts to order either. Found them on Amazon and they fit perfectly.
