I hope that it will be more useful the next time I need it
This turned out to be a typical Haynes Repair Manual. I didn't expect it to be a factory shop manual and it wasn't close to being one.I still do not know which instrument panel light bulb to buy. The bulb is not specified in the owners manual either. I have gotten three different answers in three phone calls. The Subaru dealer wants $12.46 each. That couldn't be right. Why couldn't there be a simple light bulb list in this book? Also I wanted to adjust the cabin heater vent settings to increase outdoor fresh air inflow with the aim of reducing indoor fogging. Not a word in this book about that generally simple procedure.I guess that the book is what it is. Mine is now in a plastic bag, on top of the spare tire, under the cargo deck. I hope that it will be more useful the next time I need it.

WOW so much better than searching the web for the answers.
Much better even than the digital copy I usually "rent" which has no pictures, and basically proves to be useless. This is a very good manual, and the seller sent me a nice copy very quickly. Thank you.

always helpful
Even if you know what you're doing, these are helpful for fluid capacities, wiring diagrams, bolt locations, etc. Some of the photos are bad and difficult to distinguish, but that seems to be about the same situation with every haynes manual I've ever had. I'd still definitely recommend getting either this or the chiltons book (they're basically the same for this car). It makes it a whole lot easier KNOWING what order you have to tear something apart in rather than experimenting and it's also nice knowing where that one last bolt that's impossible to see is hiding.

Doesn't cover repair of the sunroof.
Only the second thing to go wrong with the car since I've owned it is that the sunroof has jammed, and this book does not even mention that mechanism. Oh, well. Thankfully it jammed in the closed position, so I'll leave it at that rather than pay to have it fixed.I bought this book in August of 2007, a few days after buying an '05 Outback XT (a variation of the Subaru Legacy station wagon). The Subaru is so reliable that, until now, I only used the book for general information.

Haynes are not as comprehensive as professional manuals, but are excellent for the DIY car owner.

Awesome..
I have a 2004 subaru impreza and pretty much it had the same information although it only stated for legacy and forester. I was able to take apart axle hub assembly, valve cover gasket replacement, and entire exhaust system. AWESOME!!

Second time I've done this!
Bought another copy of this book (different year) by mistake. Doesn't matter though, does it? A Haynes' manual puts a wad of banknotes in your pocket every single time you take it outside and weight the page open. I really don't know any other book (well, series of books) that can do this. I've still got, up in the attic, every Haynes' manual I've ever bought, right back into the seventies. How much did the lot cost? No idea; I suppose between one and two hundred pounds. How much have they saved me? No idea; I suppose between five and ten grand. No more to be said really.

Just what the other half needed!
He can be a bit testy if he doesn't have a good workshop manual, this one is good, if not better than the ones available for British cars.
